Day 1 Belgrade
Pickup of the guests at the airport. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation in the hotel. Joint supper along with socializing with a poet Dobrica Erić. Stay overnight.
Day 2 Belgrade
Breakfast. Belgrade sightseeing: Saint Sava Temple, Terazije, Republic Square, National Museum, Students Square, Belgrade Fortress-Kalemegdan, Orthodox Cathedral, Ethnographic Museum, Assembly of the City of Belgrade, Knez Miloš, Boulevar Mira streets, Memorial Center Josip Broz Tito, White Court... Continuation of sightseeing in Zemun. Zemun is especially renowned for its tradition: fortification at Gardoš which has been mentioned as far as in the 9th century, Saint Father Nikolai Temple this is the oldest Orthodox Church in Belgrade. Dinner. Return to the hotel. Afternoon off. In the evening going for supper in Skadarlija, bohemian quarter located in the very center of Belgrade. Skadarlija, cobble paved street that dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, was famous for being the favorite meeting place of the well known Belgrade bohemians, poets, painters, actors of the nearby theatre, as well as of many lovers of "good alcoholic drop", and socializing and talking with friends. Over all these years of progress and modernization of the city and society Skadarlija managed to preserve the spirit of ancient times and just for that reason it has become endeared to Belgrade residents and many tourists. Day 3 Belgrade- Krušedol- Sremski Karlovci - Novi Sad- Belgrade
Breakfast. Departure to the monastery Krušedol - this is endowment of the Branković family, the last Serbian despots in Srem. It was built between 1509 and 1514. Monastery Krušedol is considered to be one of the most significant Serbian monasteries, notably for the role it played after great migration of Serbs when it has become a hub of spiritual life and preservation of Serbian and orthodox identity on both sides of the Sava and Danube rivers. Continuation of the trip to Sremski Karlovci. Sightseeing of the town: Cathedral, Patriarchal court, Karlovci High School... Touring and dinner on one of the salaš (farms) for which this part of Serbia is exceptionally famous. Continuation of the trip to Novi Sad. Panoramic sightseeing of Novi Sad: Petrovaradin Fortress, Serbian National Theatre, Freedom Square.... Return to Belgrade at evening hours. Evening off. Stay overnight.
Day 4 Belgrade- Orašac-Topola-Monastery Pokajnica- Belgrade
Breakfast. Departure to Orašac, a village in the very vicinity of Arandjelovac, is a place of agreement for the beginning of The First Serbian Uprising and proclamation of Karadjordje Petrović for the grand vožd (leader), at Dormition, on the February 1804. In memory of this great event, the Church of the Ascension of the Christ and the Memorial School were built as well as Memorial Drinking Fountain in Marićević gully, which with the museum and Karadjordje's monument constitute the Memorial complex in Orašac. Continuation of the trip to Topola. Touring of the old city in Topola as well as the Mausoleum of the Serbian royal family on Oplenac. During the continued trip a visit to the Monastery Pokajnica, which was built in 1818. The church, with financial assistance of Miloš Obrenović and beseeching of princess Ljubica, was erected by the kneze (prince) of Smederevo nahiya (district) Vujica Vuličević as an act of repentance for murdering his father's godson Vožd Karadjordje. Continuation of the trip. Dinner in ethno restaurant Moravski konaci. Return to Belgrade at evening hours. Evening off. Stay overnight.
Day 5 Belgrade- Smederevo- Viminacium - Golubac- Lepenski vir - Donji Milanovac
Breakfast. Departure to Smederevo. Touring of Smederevo fortress which was erected by the Serbian despot Djuradj Branković in 1943, on the confluence of the Jezava river into the Danube, as his capital. During its long and tumultuous past, built and demolished on several occasions, conquered and defended, bears the trace of time as its mark on wall paintings and towers, testifying about the unpredictability of history. Its ramparts are the symbol of builders' sacrifice, building skill and artistic beauty. Continuation of the trip to Viminacium, archeological site in the vicinity of Stari Kostolac. The Roman military camp and the town was established in the 1st century and lasted until the beginning of the 7th century. It was one of the most important legionary camps on the Danube, and for some time the capital of the Roman province Upper Moesia that comprised most of Serbia, northern Macedonia and a part of the northwestern Bulgaria. Dinner break. Touring of Golubac fortress - this is medieval fortress from the 14th century, Monument of Culture of the exceptional importance. It is located on the high bluffs, on the place where the Danube River gets narrower, at the very entrance to the Djerdap gorge. Continuation of the trip to Lepenski Vir, one of the largest and most significant Mesolithic and Neolithic archeological sites. Accommodation in the hotel in Donji Milanovac. Supper. Stay overnight.
Day 6 Donji Milanovac - Negotin --Rajačke Pivnice - Felix Romuliana- Zaječar
Breakfast. Departure to Rajačke Pivnice via Negotin. Shorter touring of Negotin: Stevan Mokranjac's birth house, which contains permanent display, arranged in ambient style of the old urban house at the end of the 19th century, Hajduk Veljko museum, situated in the building which wins people by its beauty of style, a house of grand kneze (duke) of Negotin from the 19th century- residence of kneze (prince) Todorče ... Continuation of the trip to Rajačke Pivnice. Dinner in a specific ambient of wine village Rajačke Pivnice, built of sand stone in the middle of the 19th century. Continuation of the trip to Zaječar - Felix Romuliana. Touring of archeological site Felix Romuliana: imperial palace of Roman Emperor Gaius Galerius Valerius Maximianus, built in the 3rd and 4th century A.D. The Imperial palace is one of the best preserved examples of Roman imperial architecture and the town consisted of: imperial palace, small temple, big temple, therms, horreum. In 2007 Felix Romuliana was included in a List of World Cultural Heritage. Accommodation in a hotel in Zaječar. Supper. Stay overnight.
Day 7 Zaječar-Monastery Ravanica - Monastery Manasija- Kragujevac
Breakfast. Departure to monastery Ravanica - endowment of kneze (prince) Lazar. The church is dedicated to the Ascension of Jesus and is fortified with strong defensive wall with seven towers. Ravanica is built between 1375 and 1377, and wall frescos were painted several years before the Kosovo Battle. Currently, in Ravanica are berried relics of prince Lazar. Continuation of the trip to monastery Manasija. Touring of one the most significant Serbian monasteries of the 14th century, endowment of despot Stefan Lazarević. Monastery is reputed for its frescoes of which the most renown is a fresco of a Warrior Saints. Dinner in the monastery. Continuation of the trip to Kragujevac. Touring of Memorial park Šumarice in Kragujevac - dedicated to the execution of citizens of Kragujevac by Vermaht on 21st October 1941. Around 7,000 of its residents among whom about 300 high school children and 15 children between ages 8 and 12 were shot to death in Šumarice. Accommodation in the hotel. Supper. Stay overnight.
Day 8 Kragujevac - Kruševac - Niš
Breakfast. Continuation of the trip to Niš via Kruševac-. Touring of the church Lazarica in Kruševac, which is called a pearl of the Morava School architecture. It was erected by prince Lazar between 1375-1376. Continuation of the trip to Niš. Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner, A shorter break. In the afternoon touring of Roman Mediana - this is currently an archeological park in the eastern part of Niš, and during the rule of the tsar Constantine the Great, Roman settlement or a complex of summer residences of urban type villas. The settlement was established at the very end of the 3rd or at the start of the 4th century. Touring of Skull-Tower, Monument from the First Serbian Uprising, which, as an act of retaliation, was built by the Ottomans from the skulls of Serbian warriors killed during the 1809 Battle of Čegar. Return to the hotel. Supper. Stay overnight.
Day 9 Niš - Gazimestan - Gračanica - Visoki Dečani -Pećka Patrijaršija
Breakfast. Departure to Gazimestan, where the Battle of Kosovo was fought on St Vitus Day in 1389. The Monument to Kosovo warriors is on the height of 25 m. whereas one kilometer towards the village Lazarevo is Sultan Murat's Türbe. Continuation of the trip to the monastery Gračanica which is one of the oldest monuments to Serbian culture. It was erected by the king Milutin in 1321. Since 2004 Gračnica is on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage. Continuation of the trip to Visoki Dečani - endowment of the king Stefan the Third Dečanski and the emperor Dušan. Its construction was completed in 1335 whereas fresco wall-painting was completed around 1350. In 2004, UNESCO listed the monastery on the World Heritage List, citing its frescoes as "one of the most valued examples of the so-called Palaeologan renaissance in Byzantine painting. Dinner in the Monastery Dečani. Monastery Patriarchate of Peć is the complex of churches in the close vicinity of Peć and at the entrance to Rugova gorge. Peć Patriarchate is one of the most important monuments of the Serbian past. It has always been the spiritual seat of the Serbian archbishops and patriarchs. Since 2006 this monastery has been on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List. Dinner and stay overnight in the monastery konak (lodgings).
Day 10 Djurdjevi Stupovi - Novi Pazar - Studenica
Breakfast. Departure to the monastery Djurdjevi stupovi (the Saint George Pillars). Touring of the monastery. It is dedicated to Saint George. The monastery is located on the top of a hill above Novi Pazar, in Stari Ras. The Saint George Pillars is one of the oldest Serbian monasteries. It was erected as an endowment of Grand župan (Prince) Stefan Nemanja during the first years after he ascended to the throne of the Grand Prince. Its construction was completed in 1171 and fresco paintings in the church was completed in 1175. The monastery is included in the World Cultural Heritage List and it is under UNESCO's protection. Dinner in Novi Pazar. Continuation of the trip to the monastery Studenica, which is one of the most significant, greatest and the richest monasteries of the Serbian orthodox church. It was founded by Stefan Nemanja in 1190. Monastery is reputed for its collection of frescos dating back to the 13th and 14th century. Studenica has been on the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1986. Supper and stay overnight in the Monastery lodgings.
Day 11 Studenica - Ziča- Vrnjačka banja- Ljubostinja
Breakfast. Departure to monastery Ziča. Touring of this Serbian orthodox medieval monastery. It was erected in the first half of the 13th century by the first king of Serbia Stefan Nemanjić. According to history data, seven Serbian kings have been crowned in Ziča. For each crowning the wall was broken through to build in a new door, through which only a new ruler passed through. That door was then immediately walled up but a popular name Seven-Door Ziča remained among people. Continuation of the trip to Vrnjačka Banja (Vrnjačka Spa). Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner. A short break. In the afternoon visit to monastery Ljubostinja, endowment of Princess Milica. It is dedicated to the Ascension of the Holy Virgin. The monastery was built in the period from 1388 to 1405. In Ljubostinja were buried Princess Milica, Prince Lazar's wife and nun Jefimija, who after the Battle of Kosovo here became nuns along with a number of other widows of Serbian noblemen, who lost their lives in the battles on the river Maritza and Kosovo Polje. Return to Vrnjačka spa. Supper. Stay overnight.
Day 12 Vrnjačka Banja - Zlatibor
Breakfast. Morning off. Dinner. Departure to Mt. Zlatibor with a tour of one of the monasteries in Ovčar-Kablar gorge. Arrival at Zlatibor at late evening hours. Hotel accommodation. Supper. Stay overnight.
Day 13 Sirigojno- Mećavnik
Breakfast. Departure to Sirogojno - village/outdoor museum which displays architecture, layout, activities and life in hilly- mountainous parts of Zlatibor. Continuation of the trip to Šargan - Mokra Gora, Nature Park. Touring of famous railway "Šarganska osmica" (Šargan Eight) as well as of Drvengrad on Mećavnik, built as conceived by a famous film director Emir Kusturica. Dinner in Drvengrad in the restaurant serving national dishes. Return to the hotel. Supper. Stay overnight.
Day 14 Zlatibor - Mačkov kamen - Ravna Gora -Monastery Tronoša - Tršić - Valjevo
Breakfast. Departure to Mačkov kamen, this is the battlefield where the Serbian army fought against Austro-Hungarian army in the First World War. On this site, in 1929, the Memorial charnel was built. Touring of the monument on Ravna Gora erected in memory of Draža Mihailović. Continuation of the trip to Tršić and visiting en route Tronoša Monastery, built in the 13th century. Dinner. Continuation of the trip to Tršić, the birth place of Vuk Karadžić. In the village there is an ethno park with the memorial house dedicated to him. Continuation of the trip to Valjevo. Accommodation in the hotel. Short break. Departure to Tešnjar, located in the center of Valjevo, which an old downtown (čaršija), established during the Ottoman empire. It extends along the right bank of the Kolubara river. Walking in Tešnjar, passing by low baldric structures, one may feel the spirit of oriental market and buy in some of the workshops of old craftsmen: wax-chandlers, leather/tanner craftsmen, potters, weavers, coppersmiths.... Supper in a national restaurant. Stay overnight.
